My objective is to continue helping to keep our Village a great place to live. Giving back to the community in some way is important. I would like to help our community grow, improve the local economy and maintain our community spirit. I believe there are many good reasons to be part of Warburg and my goal is one of continuous improvement. Married to Laurie in 1978 we have 4 children that have blessed us with 12 grandchildren. Volunteering with several groups, sharing experience and helping move things forward is a pleasure. Hobbies are reading, many outdoor activities and spending time enjoying family.

When my wife and I moved to Warburg a few years ago with our young children , we found exactly what we were looking for; a quiet place to live comfortably and raise our family. I commute to Nisku during the week where I’m employed as a designer/draftsman with an underground mining company. When I’m not at work, I usually spend my time at home or around town with my wife and kids. Lately as the kids are becoming more independent, we’ve spent more time with hobbies snowmobiling, wrenching on cars, and enjoying the outdoors. Having joined council in fall 2017, my goals include helping with making positive village decisions by listening to villagers and learning the workings of municipal governance.

My name is Steve Swartz and this is my first year on council. I do not have any political aspirations what so ever, I just wanted to help Warburg be the best and friendliest community it can be. I have spent 16 years working for an oil well servicing company but have recently got out of that and took a job at Weyerhaeuser in Drayton Valley in order to spend more time at home with my family. I have been married to my amazing wife Stephanie for 18 years and had 4 children together, however, we didn’t stop there we also recently adopted 2 more. We enjoy spending what little spare time we have hiking and camping and just being outdoors in general.

I was born in New Westminster, BC. Over the years I worked for an engineering company, ran my own gas station and detailing shop in Fort St. John, BC.  I ran an automotive machine shop with 2 partners where we later sold the shop to an Edmonton company. While in Fort St. John, I was an active member of the Kinsmen Club, Director and VP of the Chamber of Commerce, active with the Early Childhood Development Center, minor hockey, The Arts Space, Chairman of the Mukluk Rendezvous, Chairman of the 40th Anniversary of the Alaska Highway Committee and President of the Native Friendship Center.  I then sold heavy and farm equipment which eventually took me to Vegreville. I served a term on the Vegreville Parks and Recreation Board and was again involved with minor hockey.

In 2000, I moved with my family to the Thorsby area. While in Thorsby, I was on council for 13 years - 3 years as mayor, Vice-Chair of the Leduc County Ambulance Board, Vice-Chair of the Leduc Foundation, member of the District Fire Advisory Committee, President of the Chamber of Commerce, Vice-President of the Thorsby and District Lions Club and involved in all aspects of the community. I retired as a salesman with Thorsby Farm Centre in 2006. After losing my first wife to cancer, I decided to go back to work.

In 2018, Bev and I moved to Warburg and in 2020 I was appointed to the Subdivision and Development Appeal Board. I am now a councillor in Warburg and look forward to bringing my experience to the community.

My better half, myself and our three daughters have been residing in the Village going on our sixth year, and we couldn't find a better community to put our roots in.  So naturally, it only seemed fitting to do my part in continuing this dream of a rural Alberta community.

I've been an active volunteer in every community I have ever lived in, as I believe public service is the root of all strong communities.  I served as a volunteer firefighter in my home town of Alder Flats, and continued with Drayton Valley Stn. 3.  I look for every opportunity to help a neighbour and help out in the community any way possible.

I've been involved politically on the provincial and federal levels as a board member and campaign strategist.  However, Municipal government has always resonated with me.  I believe in small government and minimal bureaucracy, and the sense of a common goal, instead of partisan agendas.

I look forward to getting to know everyone in this Village, as well as bringing some new faces to the mix while growing our humble community that makes you feel like a family.
